About Us

THE TOWN OF AMESI

Amesi is a small town located in Aguata LGA in Anambra State of Nigeria.  The history of Amesi is one of great significant, originating from Akalabo who migrated and settled in the current location that is today known as Amesi town.  Akalabo bore three sons, Eshi (Amesi), Akpo, and Achina.  These three towns are brother towns and share the same heritage and culture.  Every three years, the Akalabo festival is celebrated in commemoration of the common ancestry of the people of Amesi, Akpo, and Achina.  Eshi in turn bore four sons, Obinato, Amuwo, Umuocha, and Ubaha.  These are the four villages that make of the town of Amesi today.  A new village, Obinabo from from Obinato Village, became the 5th village in 2018.

HISTORY OF ADA USA

From inception in the 1980s, the Association was informally operated under the name Amesi Improvement Union USA Branch (AIU USA Branch). During its formative years, the Association offered scholarships to Amesi indigenes who demonstrated academic excellence and who were determined to be in need of financial assistance to pursue college education.  Dr. Andrew Okpaleke was the pioneer President while Chief Godwin Ubanyionwu was the pioneer Secretary.

When the organization appeared to be losing momentum, Late Sir Damian Obiakor took over the leadership position as the association’s President while Chief Ubanyionwu continued to serve in capacity of Secretary. As Sir Obiakor's slowed his involvement in the association due health reasons, ADA USA was born and took a more formal framework with the election of officers we currently have today.

Through devotion to the purpose to bring together people of the same ancestry, the leadership of this Association continues to reach out to Amesi indigenes who reside in the United States.
